With much talk about the Turkish Governments request for the native breed to be review resulting in all dogs to be re classified as Kangals, the Australian response is that that there will be TWO breeds, much like what existed many years ago, Kangal and Anatolian Shepherds registration.
Under this classification the Kangal there is strict color control and the dogs are smaller than some dogs currently bred as Anatolians.
The color must be basically fawn with a black mask and ears, this knocks a lot of Anatolians out of the Kangal classification.
The breed standard for Anatolian Shepherd will now be under the UK standards, I am yet to receive clarity from DogsVic about the next step for those of us who are not going to reclassify as Kangals.
I will not be transferring my breeding to Kangals and will remain on the Anatolian Shepherd registry.
Here is an extract sent to me relating to the decision, made recently:
“Kangal Shepherd Dog / Anatolian Shepherd Dog
It was resolved to retain both breeds with Kangal Shepherd Dogs to use the current FCI standard and the Anatolian Shepherd Dogs to use the Kennel Club (UK) standard. Anatolian Shepherd Dogs which meet the requirements of the Kangal Shepherd Dog have until 31 December 2018 to transfer to the Kangal Shepherd Dog register.
Further information to be shared as received.
Cheers
